Welcome to Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support to our nation's veterans and first responders. Our mission is to rescue shelter dogs that are at risk and provide them with the necessary training to become exceptional companion and service animals at no cost.
OUR MISSION
We rescue "at risk" shelter dogs and place them into our obedience training program. Our mission is to train them to become the highest quality companion and service dogs (at no cost) to military veterans. Our focus is on the many veterans suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD.)
We also provide temporary housing and care (including veterinary support) for the dogs of military veterans while they participate in health care programs.
WHY DO WE FOCUS ON SHELTER DOGS AND VETERANS?
Roughly 390,000 dogs are euthanized yearly in shelters. 96% of those dogs are surrendered to the shelters because of behavior or lack of obedience training. The numbers for both dogs being surrendered and dogs being euthanized are increasing dramatically.
1 in 5 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars are diagnosed with PTSD. Depending on branch, up to 31% of service members develop PTSD after returning from combat. And veterans account for 20 % of U.S. suicides.
A service dog can provide emotional support, stability, and unconditional love, which are all vital for veterans struggling with PTSD. Service Dogs are trained to identify each veteran’s unique stressors and perform tasks that directly disrupt escalation of symptoms, thus enhancing their quality of life.
We are also working on developing a Companion Dog program where our dogs will be matched with a service member who needs that special friend to keep them focused on being responsible for the feeding/care of the dog. This helps give the veteran a sense of purpose and forces them to build structure back into their lives.

IN MEMORY OF
Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue was created to honor our son, Dustin Aimes, who passed away on October 16, 2021, while serving in the U.S. Air Force. His legacy will shine on with every veteran and rescue dog life saved by Stars and Stripes Dog Rescue.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit with 100% of donations going to the care, training, and maintenance of the dogs.
